Eyes are the best gift of god to all the living beings. Without eyes, without experiencing the beauty of the nature, one cannot simply exist. Eyes let you witness what you feel. And, since all beloved pets have eyes, taking care of them is your responsibility. But, how would you even know when your pet has as abnormal eye or is being a target of some infection??
Following points will heed you towards the abnormality of any sort in your pet’s eyes:
- Discharge from the eyes
- Tearing
- Red or white eyelid linings
- Tear-stained fur
- Closed eye
- Cloudiness
- Change in eye color
- Third eyelid
- Dissimilar pupil size
The normal pet eyes are clear and bright. The area round the eyes balls is white and their pupils are equal in size. There is no messy, thick, or liquid discharge coming of the eyes and no crust formation in the cornea. These are the traits of a healthy eye in the pet.
Dos and Don’ts for the pet’s eyes:
- Clean or wipe your pet’s eyes with a cotton ball or a moist cloth to keep it gunk-free.
- Avoid using extremely hot or cold water to prevent irritation in your pet’s eyes.
- Avoid using any type of detergent, soap, or shampoo when cleaning discharge from the eyes.
- Use a new cotton ball or pad for each eye, as using the same one for both eyes can spread bacteria, viruses, and infection between the two eyes.
- Do not allow your dog to let his/her head hang outside the car window, as it can be a major cause of infection in the eyes.
- Make sure you bathe your dog regularly and clean her eyes using either a damp cloth or sterile pet eyewash.
- Keeping the hair around your dog’s eyes clipped can help prevent irritation from bacteria and viruses.
- Gently wipe the outward portion around cornea of the eye.
- Please consider taking an appointment with a vet to get the pet’s eye check for infections.
